We’re delighted to announce Fearless Femme as a media partner

of the Social Enterprise Awards Scotland 2018!

Fearless Femme is a Community Interest Company (CIC) – a ‘not-for-profit’ social enterprise, so we’re very proud to be part of spreading the word and celebrating like-minded enterprises and companies who are doing something to support social and community growth. Social enterprises are not about capitalism and profits – they are about people and change.

Did you know Scotland is the world leader for social enterprises, with 5,600 such companies currently operating here?

Did you know Scotland is the word leader for social enterprises, with 5,600 such companies currently operating here? According to the Social Enterprises in Scotland Census 2017 (carried out by Social Value Lab), there are 81,357 full-time equivalent employees supported by social enterprises. 64% of these enterprises are run by women, and 34% are based in rural Scotland.

Some of the key sectors with high levels of self-identifying social enterprises are Arts and Creative Industries (68%); Health and Social Care (54%); and Housing (49%). Social enterprises tend to operate in a very transparent way, with 70% led by and accountable to people in a particular neighbourhood or community.

Social enterprises give back to communities in a number of ways, but just one example is the impact they have had in improving employment opportunities for vulnerable or unemployed youth in Scotland. 49% of Scottish social enterprises employ previously unemployed young people, and 63% provide training or support intended to improve employability.

The Social Enterprise Awards are an opportunity to showcase and celebrate the impact that social enterprises are having on Scottish society, communities and culture. All information about the awards and the online application form is available at: socialenterpriseawards.scot – and the deadline for entries has been extended from Friday 6 July to Friday the 20th of July.

The Social Enterprise Awards are an opportunity to showcase and celebrate the impact that social enterprises are having on Scottish society, communities and culture.

The winner of each award will receive a fabulous prize package including free membership of Social Enterprise Scotland, a ticket to the UK Social Enterprise Awards 2018 and a unique artwork trophy – look out for more news on prizes in the coming months! There are seven different categories available to enter, and the winners will be announced in The Scottish Parliament on Tuesday 6 November. The winners in some categories will automatically be shortlisted for the UK Social Enterprise Awards. Being such a young company, we’re limited to entering the One to Watch category this year, but we’re still really excited about being involved.

It’s also an excellent platform for exposure for companies. Duncan Thorp, policy and communications manager for Social Enterprise Scotland, wrote for Third Force News; “The awards give applicants a profile beyond Scotland, as part of a programme recognised and promoted across the UK and abroad.”

You can follow or support the awards online by using #SocEntAwards18. Of course, we’ll also be tweeting and posting about it along the way!
