Content warning: Eating Disorder

I remember my friend coming up to our group at school and telling us she thought she had an eating disorder. Everybody said she couldn’t have because she’s a healthy weight and she still eats lunch all the time.

What they didn’t understand was eating disorders aren’t about how you look; they’re about how you think.

It’s the mentality of food destroying you, that’s what all eating disorders have in common.

Everybody telling her she didn’t have this horrible and isolating condition didn’t help the situation and made her feel more alone than ever. So I created this series to showcase some of the thought processes that occur in people who suffer from eating disorders. The quotes are a collection from sufferers and my friend personally to try and help others understand they’re not alone.

In this social climate worries about visual appearance are a huge issue and eating disorders are on the rise due to pressures from society, social media and celebrities. Eating disorders are not glamorous and those who suffer from them need support and love even if other people don’t quite understand how a sufferer thinks.
