These are moments captured on a second hand film camera. I wanted the photos without any studio or lighting — just in their raw form. Women are raw — especially minority women. My two friends here are powerful and understand what it takes to be a young artist and the potential they hold. They inspire me so I wanted to approach a sisterhood theme here where they both look up to each other because that’s what we need as women. We need to support women of all shapes and sizes. All upbringings and social status. Because at the end of the day that’s not what matters. Womanhood is all that matters.

Amanda Shewell is a 24 year old Canadian living in Scotland. She works on 35mm film and has begun a more experimental approach to this form. Capturing natural moments with her friends and those she meets along the way. She simply enjoys just taking photos without thinking. No posing, just the present moment. It’s a form of meditation and medicine for her. It brings her happiness and she’s hopeful that it resignates with her audience and inspires them to find their joy as well.
